Frequently Asked Questions
What is being recalled and why?
Fortune brand Tormenta R/T FSR309 and Tormenta M/T FSR310 along with Prinx brand HiCountry R/T HR1 and HiCountry M/T HM1 tires are being recalled, due to an improper marking on the sidewalls of these tires.

These tires are incorrectly marked with the 3PMS Alpine symbol shown below.
The 3PMS Alpine symbol signifies that these tires meet the definition of a snow tire.
The tires in question were labeled as snow tires in accordance with regulation No. 117 of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations, but they do not have sufficient traction to meet the snow tire definition according to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 139 for the U.S. and Canadian markets.
How can I tell if the products I purchased are affected?
Check to see if you own the specific brand and model indicated in the FAQ above. Then check to see if your tires have the 3PMS Alpine symbol. The 3PMS Alpine symbol can be located on the tire’s sidewall to the right of the DOT TIN, near the wheel flange.

Should consumers be worried/concerned about the safety of these tires? Can I continue to use my tires?
This is not a safety defect. PCTNA is not aware of any safety incidents in the field due to performance in snow conditions. This voluntary recall is being conducted due to an improper marking on the sidewall. While these tires do pass the UNECE R117 testing to qualify as snow tires in Europe, they do not meet the requirement used here in the United States or Canada.
We see no reason why you cannot continue to use these tires on your vehicle.
The Fortune and Prinx R/T tires are one of the most popular tires sold by PCTNA. They come with a 50,000 mile treadwear warranty and will continue to be sold in North America, but without the 3PMS Alpine symbol. Similarly, the Fortune and Prinx M/T tires will also continue to be sold in North America, but without the 3PMS Alpine symbol.
What is the remedy?
PCTNA is offering one of two remedy options to address this non-compliance with federal marking standards. Both options require you to provide proof of ownership of the recalled tires and subsequent proof of remedy being completed.
-
Removal of Alpine symbol - PCTNA is offering to reimburse $50 per tire for the removal of this symbol from each sidewall. This process involves a PROFESSIONAL TIRE DEALER AND/OR RETAILER using a buffer to gently smooth the surface of the tire where the 3PMS Alpine symbol is located. These buffing tools are widely used by most tire dealers. This service should take less than one hour.
-
Tire Destruction and Reimbursement - If you drive in conditions requiring snow traction performance as signified by the 3PMS Alpine symbol, please contact the PCTNA Recall Resolution Team at 1-855-544-4891 Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm Eastern Time for assistance to discuss options for destruction of the recalled tires and snow tire reimbursement.
Can I buff the 3PMS Alpine logo off by myself?
NO. Reimbursement requires the removal of the 3PMS Alpine symbol to be completed by a PROFESSIONAL TIRE DEALER AND/OR RETAILER. Removing the symbol on your own may affect the performance of your tire(s).
I have non-recall related questions about my tires. Who should I contact?
Please contact the PCTNA Recall Resolution Team at 1-855-544-4891 Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm Eastern Time for assistance.
What if I no longer have the recalled tires?
If you no longer own tires affected by this recall, please contact the PCTNA Recall Resolution Team at 1-855-544-4891 Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm Eastern Time to provide us with change of ownership information.
